How Much Space Should Be Left Around a Bed?
The calculator describes a layout as comfortable when the centered bed leaves at least 60 cm (about 24 inches) on each side and at each end. Less space can still work in a compact room, but walking around the bed and changing the bedding may be more difficult.
Measure the actual room before buying. A mattress dimension does not include an oversized bed frame, headboard or footboard, and the visualizer does not account for door swings, drawers or other furniture.
Bed Sizes Differ Between Countries
A familiar name does not always describe the same dimensions in another country. Always compare the numeric width and length rather than relying only on names such as Double, Queen or King. Manufacturers can also vary slightly from the common sizes shown here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the calculator include the bed frame?
No. The drawing uses the mattress dimensions. Measure the complete outer dimensions of the frame separately, especially when it includes a wide headboard, footboard, drawers or storage.
Can a bed fit even when the result says tight fit?
Yes. Tight fit means the mattress fits inside the room but leaves less than 60 cm of clearance on at least one side or end when centered. Check doors, furniture and the way you use the room.
Why does rotating the bed change the result?
Rooms are often rectangular. Turning the mattress swaps its width and length relative to the room and can create a more useful layout.
Are Queen and King sizes the same worldwide?
No. Names and measurements vary by country. Use the country selector and compare the displayed dimensions before purchasing a mattress or frame.
