Paper size in Canada and USA

In Canada and the United States, the standard paper size is known as “Letter” size, which measures 8.5 inches x 11 inches. This is slightly different from the ISO standard A4 paper size, which is the standard paper size used in most other countries and measures 210mm x 297mm or 8.27 inches x 11.69 inches. In addition to Letter size, other paper sizes commonly used in Canada and the United States include:

  • Legal: 8.5 inches x 14 inches
  • Tabloid: 11 inches x 17 inches
  • Ledger: 17 inches x 11 inches
  • Executive: 7.25 inches x 10.5 inches
  • Half-letter: 5.5 inches x 8.5 inches
  • Note: 3.5 inches x 5 inches

These paper sizes are based on the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard sizes.

In Canada they also use P series. Canadian paper sizes P1 to P6:

International standard for papers (ISO)

Most countries don’t use US standard paper sizes. The A-series is the International Standard for paper sizes (ISO).
